Care Packages

If there are any kind souls out there who wish to post me goodies and messages of love along the way, the details are below. Please take note of my approximate arrival date and remember I might actually arrive earlier than expected. Write ‘Please hold for PCT hiker‘ and then my nameΒ in big bold letters and put my expected arrival date on the letter/package. Then be sure to send me an email or a comment to this page to let me know where you’ve sent something, then I’ll know to ask for it. Consumables are preferred (I’ll eat just about anything except spicy food), as are the locations in bold below as I’ll be spending an extra day in these towns.Β I would allow at least 3-4 weeks for delivery, especially from Australia! πŸ™‚

  1. Maybe this is by choice … but no where on your site does it tell your name for the care packages. While I am an on-the-trail PCT Trail Angel, there may be some angels who would like to send you a care package.

You may also want to provide a wish list of foods you might enjoy, things not to send you, etc.

IF any of your resupplies stops are charging to hold your packages, let us know so we can avoid sending things there. Angels want our gifts to be ‘free’ of charge.

I’ve been enjoying your posts and look forward to seeing you in Oregon!

    Chris

    • Thanks Chris! I wasn’t really expecting my family and friends to send me anything, let alone complete strangers! πŸ™‚ Your advice is excellent and I’ll try to update this page with a little more info before I head off. Not long to go now! Hope to see you in Oregon too!

      • Bacon Bit (2012) and Wired (2011) weren’t expecting anything either … what they quickly found out about those of us who couldn’t break away for such a wonderful adventure (just yet) is that we really enjoy good blogs and supporting people along the trail. Erin is off to do the CDT this year and I am currently putting together a care package for her.

I’ve shared your blog with about 20 people and will be cross-posting it on my blog when at some point in the next few weeks. With HalfMile’s new sits (www.hikepress.com) you are getting a lot of exposure as one of the few early bloggers.

      • WOW! That’s exciting and scary all at the same time! I love Wired’s blog, she was the inspiration to put effort into my own. Thanks for the head’s up, you’ve inspired me all the more!

  2. Hey love! Enjoying reading your updates, sent a little package this week for you full of goodies. Thinking of you always my dear xxxx Bel & Josh

    • OMG my love that’s awesome! Where have you sent it to? So excited to receive it. Can’t thank you enough. All my love xxx

    • Amazing!!! I love you guys! Wow I am so incredibly spoiled! You know I’ll be thinking about that package for the next 100 plus miles. I hope it will get me up the big steep Kearsage Pass tomorrow!!!! Xxx

    • OMG, ladies this package is freaking awesome!!! I’m honestly in shock! You couldn’t have picked anything more perfect! You guys must have spent a fortune! I’m completely indebted to you all. Loved your note. Sylvie just sent me a new tshirt so I’m going to wear yours in town until the orange one gets funky again! I’m going to have the best section with all your goodies, can’t wait to snack on it all! Seriously overwhelmed and so happy! THANK YOU!!! Xxx

      • Thank you SO much!! I had to stop myself from eating all the chocolate before I hit the trail again! As for your question, a lady never reveals such answers… You’ll have to wait for the novel! πŸ™‚

      • Chis your package is wonderful!!! The coffee is perfect and those drink packets are amazing!!! I’ll definitely stay hydrated through the next section! The insoles fit really well so I’m thinking of maybe bouncing them ahead for when my current ones wear out (which may be sooner than later). I’ll probably use the socks for sleeping and maybe bounce one pair ahead for Washington when it’ll be cold on the feet. You are an absolute angel and I can’t thank you enough for your kindness and generosity!!! Muk Muk πŸ™‚

    • Woohoo!!! Chris you are a true angel. Can’t wait to see the goodies inside!! Thank you sooooo very much. Will let you know once I’ve received it! X

    • They will be perfect!!! UB drinks them all the time and swears by them! He had some already so I get to take all the ones you sent us! Perfect as I’ve got a 10 day stretch ahead of me to South Lake Tahoe and ill need all the strength I can get!

  3. Look for an Amazon Package in South Lake Tahoe for Sawyer Premium Permethrin Clothing Insect Repellent. Spray your pack, tent, hat, bivy, shoes, outer clothes, but net, etc. Be sure to be in a well ventilated place away from wind. It’ll dry pretty quickly. It lasts through 6 washings or for 6 weeks. No odor once it dries. You’ll be able to use DEET less often and only on exposed skin. YES, you have more skeeter and black fly places to look forward to. I HATE these pests also. They DRIVE me CRAZY!!! Especially noseeums. GOOD LUCK – hope it arrives, if not, check the gear store that loves PCT hikers, can’t remember the name – they may have some to sell.

    • It’s called Lake of the Sky Outfitters. They also have a list of local trail angels.

    • Thanks Jan I received your package!!! This will help sooo much in mosquito territory!! Can’t wait to test it out!

  4. I’m prepping another package of coffee, drink mixes and instant breakfast packets. When you get a chance, let me know if you’d like it sent to Dunsmuir, Etna or Ashland. I’d like to post it on July 10 or 11.

I’m not sure what your resupply plan is between Ashland and Cascade Locks … but hopefully I can surprise you and a few others with apples and coffee during that stretch. I’m almost able to drive!

    Chris

    • Hi Chris!! Will be great when you’re out and about again! I absolutely loved the drink mixes and coffee! Amazing! Either of those destinations would be perfect. Maybe Etna? Can’t wait to see you out there! πŸ™‚

      • Thank you so much Chris!! I can’t tell you how fun it is to receive packages like this out on the trail! It honestly feels like Christmas each time!! The coffee was one of the major ingredients that got me through the last section! πŸ™‚

  5. Hi Muk Muk! My brother and I are going to send you a care package of goodies -is sending it to Drakesbad Ranch the best option or should I send it further on up the trail? Totally up to you! Please let me know and I wil put in the FedEx today!!! Thanks for letting us follow you along on this epic journey!! Maura in Santa Monica πŸ™‚

    • Drakesbad would be perfect!! Wow Maura that’s super exciting! Once I know a package is coming I can’t stop thinking about it. Thank you so very much for thinking of me. Can’t wait for the surprise πŸ™‚

    • Oh my goodness Maura the package from you and Jimmy was absolutely unbelievable! The contents was spot on and I have been enjoying much of the contents already on this next section! Thank you so much for your generosity and support, what an incredible surprise!!! πŸ™‚

  6. Sending a box of goodies – all food. Looks like you have drakesbad covered. Should we send it to dunsmuir or would you prefer more in drakesbad? Also, anything in particular you need?

    • Oh wow!!! Dunsmuir would be perfect!! I feel so loved! πŸ™‚ You are amazing! I love the Carnation Breakfast mixes, coffee of course and the packets of Gatorade powder are magical. These are things I don’t have in my resupply boxes. I’m also a complete Cookie Monster and LOVE all types of cookies! Thank you Francine, amazing!!! πŸ™‚

  7. Ok. Will send to dunsmuir. If you think of anything else let me know in the next week as I won’t need to send it right away. Do you need hand lotion unscented? Recently discovered trader Joe’s has really nice Shea butter. Also, itch ease or Benadryl ointment for bites? Mine really eased up after using a combination of those two.

    • So wonderful Chris!!! Absolutely can’t wait for the surprise!!! Thank you so much for taking such good care of me out here! πŸ™‚

  8. MukMuk – I just sent a small Priority Mail box to you at Drakesbad. It is estimated to arrive by July 18, but I put July 20 on the box as your estimated arrival date (… now that we’re all practiced up on how to estimate where you will be on any given date…) I didn’t read the above comments beforehand – sorry if you end up feeling deluged at Drakesbad, but I’m assuming there will be other hikers to share excess stuff with, if not a hiker box (or trash can!). I just spent the weekend in Big Bear Lake and hiked a trail that briefly joined the PCT, but your footprints were long gone. πŸ™‚

    • …and I’m not sure why my comment (above) is dated July 16 at 2:20am – I posted it (and mailed the box) on Monday, July 15.

    • Wow Jamie that’s so kind of you! Thank you so very much! I loved Big Bear, hope you had a great hike out there. So excited to reach Drakesbad! πŸ™‚

      • Heads up that folks are saying that Drakesbad is no longer hiker friendly. Might want to consider getting most needs met in Chester and just grabbing your package in Drakesbad.

In Chester stop by the dental office, very hiker friendly and magic.

  9. Hi Muk muk
Just mailed your package to Dunsmuir by priority mail MIT should arrive 7/19. Will track it. Included instant breakfast & instant coffee per your request. Sent instant orange Gatorade. It is swim team season here so ALL stores were sold out of packets of Gatorade. Other goodies in there, too. Safe hiking.
    Francine

  10. Awesome!!!!! So happy you got it – I know it was a lot of stuff but figured you could do a little trail magic πŸ™‚ Be safe and keep trekking!!!!

  11. Hello my name is Zoe and I would like to send you a care package. I was thinking I would send it to eith Etna or Ashland, which would be better for you? Do you have any special requests? Have you tried those Starbucks instant coffee’s that you mix with a cold water bottle? Do you need any shirts, socks etc? I will gladly send anything you need.

    • Hi Zoe, thank you so much for contacting me and for your generous offer to send me a care package! I haven’t tried the Starbucks instant coffees but they sound awesome! I actually have some angels sending me packages to Ashland and Etna, but I was looking at my schedule and Trout Lake could be a better option. I already have all my basics covered for the rest of the trail so it could be good to send something I can eat before I hit the trail again out of town. I am going through socks every 100 miles so if you know of a brand that works well for you and want to include a pair I’d be happy to test them out! Thank you for looking out for me and for following along on the adventure!! Trail hugs from Muk πŸ™‚

      • Ok, I’m on it! I started following your journey after your SPOT activation (I work in the Dispatch Center that got the call) and I’m loving all of your posts. What you are doing is so amazing and such an inspiration. Sometimes it reminds me of Dory (the fish in Finding Nemo) where she says “just keep swimming” πŸ™‚

      • Wow Zoe I can’t thank you and your team enough for coming to look for me! I have been thinking of that incident so much and keep wanting to thank those who got a helicopter to me and people on the ground. It’s such a huge operation for you guys to organise. Thank you to everyone who was involved!!! Muk

      • Zoe, can you get Muk Muk the SARs involved in the dispatch call. She’d like to thank both the air and ground teams.

  12. Wow, 2 straight 30 mile days you are on a roll, Muk Muk! Curious how you are tracking for your Etna arrival (Wed or Thu?), want to get up there and provide some TM for you and other PCT thru hikers; give an estimate and will do my best to get there similar time frame.

    • Hoping to arrive on Friday before the PO closes! Hopefully early afternoon but keep an eye on the blog for updates! πŸ™‚

    • Will be heading to the PO soon to grab it! Have been thinking about your package this whole weekend! Can’t wait to see what’s inside πŸ™‚ Will let you know once I receive it! Muk

    • Thank you so much for such a wonderful care package Francine! I didn’t even have to open my own resupply box as you had most of my goodies covered! Thanks again! Muk

  13. Wow! You are one amazing lady. Russ at Trail Designs sent me your blog link. I haven’t read it all but I am fascinated by your adventure and perseverance. I hope you feel better soon. Two helps come to mind. One, your encounter with the mountain lion spurred me to by an air horn (1.4 oz,120 Decibel volume with 1 mile audible distance). Actually I bought two, one for me and one for you if you want it. Two, I have a SPOT Connect that is not currently being used, as you may know, it pairs with your smart phone and allows for custom text messages to be sent out (but not received). I would be happy to loan it to you for extended and indeterminate period. It has to be set up, paired, cost plan purchased, etc. It adds a bit more complexity but you appear to be remarkably technically savvy as I see from you Blog, videos, gear list, etc. Let me know. Happy Trails!

    • Hey thanks so much for the offer! The air horn sounds pretty cool but I’m trying so hard to reduce my base weight so I’m not 100% sure I’ll want to carry it. The custom SPOT would also be great but because I’ve got mine set up with my blog and twitter I think I’m gonna have to stick with my current device. Thank you so much though and if I change my mind (after a bit more sleep) I will get back to you! πŸ™‚
